Case study
With a promising but undefined vision, we partnered with a leading dental insurance company to explore a smart toothbrush initiative aimed at improving policyholder health outcomes. Inspired by the success of wearable health devices, the client sought to leverage smart toothbrush technology to enhance oral care, boost engagement, and develop a rewards system for users willing to share brushing data.
In the first two weeks, we launched a series of workshop activities using the Clear Path Forward sequence, adding a collaborative activity around sketching the ecosystem. Guiding a cross-functional team remotely through Miro boards for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, we helped the team define objectives, align on user needs, and clarify the broader business context.
As a result of our work together, key insights included:
- Dental health paradox
While most Americans value oral health, daily practices fall short of recommended standards. - Intention vs. action gap
Many plan to improve oral care, yet fewer follow through. - Holistic approach
Sustainable dental health requires both professional care and user empowerment.
After six more weeks of work together, final deliverables included a proof of concept (POC), design library, gamification concepts, and a strategic roadmap for next steps.
